SAH IDEAS Sessions Society of Architectural Historians 2023 Annual International Conference Montréal, Québec, Canada, April 12–16
Virtual, September 20–22

Conference Chair:
Carla Yanni, SAH First Vice President, Rutgers University
Conference Associate Chair: Mohammad Gharipour, SAH Second Vice President, University of Maryland
Local Co-Chairs: Christina Contandriopoulos, Université du Québec à Montréal, and Olivier Vallerand, Université de Montréal

The Society of Architectural Historians seeks proposals for two paper sessions (one in Montréal and one virtual) that further the goals of the SAH IDEAS Initiative (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accountability, and Sustainability).

SAH invites everyone interested in the history of the built environment to submit a proposal to chair an SAH IDEAS Session at the 2023 Annual International Conference. SAH membership is required to chair or present research at the conference, thus non-members who are selected to chair a session will be required to join SAH in August 2022 when conference registration opens for Session Chairs and Speakers.

For the two SAH IDEAS Sessions (one in Montréal, one virtual) we are seeking sessions that explore the intersection of architecture and social justice; inclusion and exclusion; diversity; transparency; accessibility; borders and conflicts; systemic inequalities, and challenges of method. In every case, the subject should be clearly defined in critical and historical terms. Since the principal purpose of the Annual International Conference is to inform conference attendees of the state of research in architectural history and related disciplines, proposals covering every period in the history of architecture and all aspects of the built environment, including landscape and urban history, are encouraged.

Since late submissions cannot be considered, it is recommended that proposals be submitted before the deadline.

Additional Information:

Sessions for Montréal 2023 will not be recorded.

Sessions for Virtual 2023 will be recorded live in their entirety, and full sessions will be available for conference attendees to view for 30 days after the virtual conference. Papers will be delivered live through Zoom and will not be pre-recorded.
